Long Covid
It doesn’t matter how ill you were when you first had Covid-19, some people go on to suffer from symptoms lasting from 6 months to 18 months after recovering from the acute episode.
Symptoms may include:
Extreme tiredness - fatigue
Memory and concentration problems (“brain fog”)
Feeling sick, diarrhoea, stomach aches and/or loss of appetite
Change to taste and/or smell
Shortness of breath
Chest pains and/or tightness, heart palpitations
Difficulty sleeping
Dizziness
Joint pains
Pins and needles
Depression and anxiety
Tinnitus and/or earaches
High temperature, coughs, headaches, sore throat
Skin rashes
Some of these symptoms can be a sign of another illness, so it may be important to see your GP to confirm or investigate this; most of these Long Covid symptoms will go away with time but many people are experiencing mild symptoms for many months, particularly fatigue, shortness of breath and “brain fog”.
These symptoms are often treated by our practitioners so it may be worth contacting us to see if we can help - we can always offer a free 15 minute chat over the phone to discuss matters in more detail.
You might want to consider:
Osteopathy for fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pains and joint pains
Acupuncture is often used to help increase energy levels
Homeopathy for general health
Reflexology to stimulate energy levels
Yoga one to one - breathing techniques and increasing flexibility
Psychotherapy for anxiety and depression
Whatever symptoms you are experiencing, it is very important to find the right treatment or combination of treatments for you, as an individual, as your response to Covid may be influenced by your underlying imbalances, health patterns or previous illnesses.
Diet
Diet is also an essential part of any immune response; see below for the basic anti-inflammatory diet pyramid which also supports the immune system. Also, have a look at our previous blog about foods which boost the immune system.
Supplements
We are looking into stocking Phyto-V and yourgutplus which are the supplements used in the recent successful trial into Long Covid.
This was a non-commercial trial, designed and conducted by a team of clinical and academic nutritionalists, chest physicians, research pharmacists, consultants and scientists from Bedfordshire and Addenbrooke’s Cambridge University Hospitals.
Results analysed by the university of Bedfordshire showed the combination of probiotics with a phytochemical-rich concentrated food capsule have been to be very successful in reducing Long Covid symptoms:

Overall the study showed:
A two-fold reduction in mean fatigue scores
A three-fold reduction in cough score
A two fold improvement in overall well-being scores
There is much that can be done to support the body as it slowly returns to normal and strips out the remnants of viral overload. Post viral fatigue has long been known about and Long Covid is an extension of this syndrome of symptoms associated with compromised immune function.
